چکیده

Abstract Introduction The gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) is the most common mesenchymal neoplasm of tract. Even though it can be found in any location digestive tract, colorectal GIST rare. With this study, we aim to review current knowledge regarding prognosis and management GIST. Methods A literature search was conducted PubMed, 717 articles were collected. After analyzing these studies, 60 selected use review. Results mitotic index, as well size identified good discriminators various studies. Surgery remains only curative therapy for potentially resectable tumors. However, even after surgical resection, some patients develop disease recurrence metastasis, especially those with high-risk Therefore, resection alone might inadequate all GISTs. discovery GIST's molecular pathway led a shift its therapy, insofar tyrosine kinase inhibitors became part treatment schemes tumor, revolutionizing treatment's outcome prognosis. Discussion/Conclusion controversy concerning be, part, attributed limited number studies literature. In review, gathered recent about rare propose two algorithms approach. Lastly, highlight importance an individualized approach setting multidisciplinary team.

Prognostic factors in malignant gastrointestinal stromal tumors.

Gastrointestinal stromal tumors are a heterogeneous group of mesenchymal neoplasms of the gastrointestinal tract in which routine histopathological evaluation fails to reveal definitive evidence of differentiation. Given the heterogeneity in clinical presentation and the frequent morphological overlap, the biological behavior of these neoplasms is difficult to predict. We have evaluated, by Cox...

Gastrointestinal stromal tumors: prognostic factors and therapeutic implications.

BACKGROUND Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are the most frequent mesenchymal tumors of the digestive tract. They have recently been recognized as a separate nosological entity and the literature on these stromal tumors has rapidly expanded. MATERIALS AND METHODS The surgical records of 50 patients with primary GISTs treated at the Digestive Surgery Department of the Catholic Universit...

Immune infiltrates are prognostic factors in localized gastrointestinal stromal tumors.

Cancer immunosurveillance relies on effector/memory tumor-infiltrating CD8(+) T cells with a T-helper cell 1 (TH1) profile. Evidence for a natural killer (NK) cell-based control of human malignancies is still largely missing. The KIT tyrosine kinase inhibitor imatinib mesylate markedly prolongs the survival of patients with gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) by direct effects on tumor cells...

Histological and Immunological Evaluation of Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors

Background: Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) constitute the majority of gastrointestinal mesenchymal tumors. They usually express a proto-oncogen protein called CD117 detected by immunohistochemistry. This study investigated the differentiation of GISTs as well as the risk of aggressive behaviors in GISTs from surgically-treated patients in university affiliated hospitals. Methods: The c...

Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors (GIST) and Their Management.

Gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) is the most common form of sarcoma and can vary in size and clinical outcome from an incidental finding at the time of surgery to life-threatening metastatic disease. Surgery is the standard of care for primary disease, and the oral drug imatinib is the standard of care for metastatic disease. Sunitinib was approved in the United States in early 2006 for GI...
